Crimson but hiding purple glints, give a swirl and this Alexander Valley Zinfandel offers up a nose of strong blackberry and raspberry, yet with a slight flintiness. Mellow vanilla and anise seed breeze forward as it opens. On the palate, rich cherry pie adds to the raspberry and oak, with a touch of rosemary and a slight spiciness of white pepper on the finish. Giving us a smooth mouthfeel and bright acidity, this wine has a moderately long finish.
Pair with a wood-oven fired pizza of pine nuts, gorgonzola, and prosciutto, served with a kale-pear-parmesan salad.
